Bladder Control Products
Manage the Urge
with Bladder Control Products. Many cases of urine
incontinence are caused by bladder infections. Bladder
control products aim to improve the tone and tightness of
the bladder sphincter to better control the involuntary
passing out of urine, or aim to minimize discomfort and
staining from the lack of bladder
control.
Bladder Control
Products Depending On
Diagnosis
Before a choice of treatment is put into action,
proper and thorough diagnosis of a patient’s condition
must be undertaken as there are a variety of approaches
in resolving the problem of incontinence. The bladder
control product must fit the condition for it to be
effective.
Bladder infections may be due to certain
conditions such as the presence of kidney or bladder
stones that block the normal passage of body fluids.
Enlarged prostates and the use of catheters may also be a
culprit in bladder infections. More women develop
incontinence from bladder infections as they are more
prone to bacterial infection in their urinary bladder due
to the proximity of their urinary tract to the
kidneys.
Antibiotics may be the drug of choice for early
signs of bladder infections. Antibiotics kill
infection-causing bacteria when administered for one or
two weeks, depending on the severity of the infection.
Patients whose symptoms are more chronic than others will
require en extended antibiotic treatment time. Strict
adherence to the antibiotic regimen is required for the
treatment to be successful. Patients with severe bladder
infections may be placed on a 6-month medication time
which may begin with small doses of
antibiotics.
Another option
is to use D Mannose, a natural sugar which has seen great
results in treating UTI's caused by E coli. D
Mannose has no side
effects, and while it is a sugar, it is not metabolized so
safe for those with diabetes. Long term, or frequent use of
antibiotics, should be avoided if possible.

Urinary incontinence which may be caused by
vaginal or urinary prolapse may be resolved with pelvic
floor exercises or Kegel exercise devices.
Stress incontinence or urge incontinence may
be caused by the inferior tone quality of the bladder
sphincter. Aside from pelvic floor exercises to improve
muscle tone, there are other bladder control products that
can address this concern. Drugs belonging to the adrenergic
agonist family aid the urinary sphincter to retain its
tone and provide it with more strength.
Urge incontinence where there
could be a passing out of urine in huge amounts is caused by
the involuntary contraction of the bladder. Medicines for this
type of incontinence are also available to control bladder
contractions. These are the calcium channel blockers,
oxybutynin and tricylic anti-depressants that calm the nervous
system that sends signals to the bladder when it
contracts.
Children who
continue to bed wet towards their teens are sometimes
prescribed trycylic anti-depressants to address this
condition. Contraindications of these medications may be
changes in eating habits or mood swings.
Urine incontinence in women due
to age or menopause may be treated with estrogen therapy.
Estrogen is known to be a very important hormone in maintaining
the tone and strength of the pelvic floor muscles. Women who
are menopausal lose estrogen as a result of their condition.
The pelvic floor muscles’ strength and tone can deteriorate due
to the reduction of estrogen levels during menopause or due to
aging. Estrogen therapy helps maintain the normal level of
hormones needed to control incontinence.
These bladder control
products can only be efficient if they are taken with
strict adherence to a doctor’s prescription and advice.
If all else fail, the patient will have no choice but to
invest in adult nappies and bed pads while the
incontinence continues.
